Bill de Blasio previously served as New York City’s mayor before current Mayor Eric Adams was elected.
During de Blasio’s leadership, the Empire State’s capital city faced many serious problems. These issues largely involved crime, with people being attacked on subways, in subway stations, and in other public areas.
Amid COVID-19, then then-Democratic-mayor leaned into heavy COVID-19 restrictions. De Blasio gleefully put vaccine passport programs into effect, barring unvaccinated individuals from being able to enjoy access to many services in the city.
Since leaving office, de Blasio made it clear he was very much interested in running for a seat in the US House of Representatives.
However, just earlier this week, the former mayor of NYC decided to scrap his plans to seek a congressional seat, per Breitbart News.
Finally Taking a Hint?
In de Blasio’s plans to seek a congressional seat, he was running to represent the 10th district of New York. However, after less than ten weeks of campaigning, de Blasio realized it was time to call it quits.
The New York Democrat released a statement, saying that after paying attention to what people have to say, it’s apparent that he’s not the candidate they want in office.
It’s clear the people of #NY10 are looking for another option and I respect that. Time for me to leave electoral politics and focus on other ways to serve. From here, de Blasio proceeded to say he “respects” this and will be stepping away from electoral politics altogether. The former mayor then followed this up by noting he’s going to look into other ways he can be of service to people.
Finally, his statement concluded with his asserted gratefulness for people he’s met, inspirational stories he’s heard, and “good souls” who were of aid to him.
A Terrible Legacy in New York City
While de Blasio is no longer serving as the NYC mayor, the legacy of crime left in his wake remains very much alive.
New Yorkers got a firsthand look at the type of leadership this particular Democrat brings when he’s in power. It’s no coincidence that many New Yorkers in the 10th district reviewed this and decided it has no place in Congress.

Aside from seeking a seat in the House of Representatives, de Blasio was previously rumored to be considering a run for New York governor. However, this never panned out either.
Ultimately, it remains to be seen whether or not de Blasio holds true to his word of staying out of electoral politics. There still remains a real possibility of the former mayor trying to run for yet another elected office in the future.
